MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: LG WM4200HWA
The exact white LG WM4200HWA has a 5.0-cu-ft TurboWash 360 front panel and owner-manual codes including IE, OE, dE and PE.
Confirm the white washer and its front panel
WM4200HWA is LG's white front-loading washer with UPC 048231028301. Its official specification gives a five cubic foot drum, fourteen wash programs and DLEX4200W as the matching white electric dryer. These identifiers are more reliable than a photograph of the family range, which also contains black steel and other power configurations. The support page for the exact sales code links an owner manual whose cover names WM4200H*A; the wildcard covers this white model. Verify that association before following a code from a shared manual.
The panel illustrated on page 23 is a front-facing dial with separate TurboWash, Cold Wash, Steam and Add Item controls and a numeric time display. Its cycle choices include Bright Whites, Allergiene, Bedding, Speed Wash, Drain+Spin and Tub Clean. LG gives a 1300 RPM maximum spin and a cabinet measuring 27 inches wide, 39 high and 33 1/4 deep; an open door needs 53 1/4 inches. The electrical specification is 120 volts and 10 amps. These dimensions and controls help distinguish the unit from older GE top loaders or another LG washer with a different display.
Choose cycles without confusing wash behavior for failure
Normal handles ordinary cotton, linen and mixed clothing. Bedding is intended for bulky pieces and the manual advises against mixing bedding with smaller unrelated garments. Allergiene uses high temperature and automatically includes steam to reduce certain allergens; it is unsuitable for delicate, heat-sensitive fabrics. Speed Wash is for two or three lightly soiled pieces rather than a full drum. Selecting a suitable program gives the sensors a representative load and prevents an expected long soak or short spin from being mistaken for a malfunction.
Cold Wash deliberately lengthens washing and rinsing while using cooler water. Steam and Cold Wash cannot be selected together, so an unavailable option can be a compatibility rule rather than a broken button. LG lists AI DD and TurboWash 360 on the exact model; the AI indicator illuminates only under specified program conditions. Fresh Care is another optional behavior: after the main wash, it can tumble the load periodically for up to nineteen hours if the laundry cannot be unloaded immediately. That movement does not mean a new wash has started.
Read normal indicators before troubleshooting
The time display may first show dashes while sensing the size of the load, and the estimate can change once the load has been measured. The panel separately indicates door lock, Wi-Fi and remote start. None of those status lights by itself identifies a failed valve or pump. Add Item pauses a cycle and unlocks the door only when water level and temperature are safe; forcing the door when it remains locked risks damage. Read the stage LEDs and operating context before treating a normal pause or changing duration as a fault.
Two lettered messages in the same area also need context. CL indicates Control Lock, which disables most buttons until its control is released. tcL is the Tub Clean reminder and the manual explicitly says it is not an error code. It can appear after repeated use because the drum needs cleaning. For a persistent genuine problem, the Smart Diagnosis routine can transmit information to the phone application: hold the phone near Power and press Temp for three seconds. The diagnostic app supplements the displayed code; record the code first.
Use the displayed fault to locate the system
IE means the washer is not filling properly. Open both water taps fully and examine kinked inlet hoses, blocked inlet screens and household pressure. UE instead concerns an unbalanced load; adding similar-weight articles or redistributing tangled items is more relevant than cleaning a valve. dE, dE1, dE2 or dE4 mean the door is unsecured; close it firmly and seek service if the message continues. The codes point to three different conditions even if they all stop the same wash program.
OE moves attention to draining. The manual lists a bent or blocked drain hose and warns against putting its outlet more than 96 inches above the washer bottom. tE is a temperature/control problem for which LG calls for disconnecting power for 60 minutes before retrying. FE is overflow from a faulty valve, and PE is a water-level sensor problem; both call for closing the taps, unplugging and service. LE concerns the motor, with a 30 minute rest before restart. PF follows a power interruption; FF indicates frozen water paths. Excess detergent can produce a Sud indication and stop spin, so the response must follow the actual display rather than a generic reset.
Maintain water paths and use the panel deliberately
If IE appears with poor filling, the maintenance section specifically links it to a dirty inlet filter or weak pressure. Turn off the taps and unplug before removing and cleaning the screens, then reinstall them; operating without the filters can damage the inlet valves. If OE blinks with poor draining, check the drain-pump filter and drain the remaining water into a container before opening it. These are different filters in different water paths. Cleaning the wrong one wastes effort and may spill water.
LG recommends running Tub Clean monthly with the drum empty and leaving the door open afterward to dry the interior. The four-tray dispenser separates prewash, main wash, bleach and softener, which helps prevent product residue from becoming a new issue. TurboWash can shorten a compatible cycle while maintaining similar wash performance; on some cycles it is selected automatically. The front panel should be set deliberately rather than repeatedly pressing unavailable options. If a specific error remains after the documented checks, note the model, code and attempted remedy when contacting service.
