MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE SCA2000FBB
SCA2000FBB is a black GE Profile Advantium above-cooktop oven with 1.20-cu-ft cavity, 950-W microwave, 300-cfm externally vented hood and 30-A 240/208-V rating. Its linked SCA2000 guide documents SENSOR ERROR from opening the door in sensor cooking.
Identify the compact high-voltage over-range model
SCA2000FBB is a GE Profile Advantium appliance mounted above a cooktop, finished Black on Black with a frameless glass door. Its oven is 1.20 cubic feet, smaller than several wall-mounted Advantium siblings. The exact GE listing names Speedcook and Microwave as cooking modes and rates the microwave at 950 W. This is also an externally vented range hood, with a two-speed, 300-cubic-foot-per-minute fan to collect vapor from food cooking below it. GE specifies 30 A at 240/208 V for the appliance. That rating differs materially from the Advantium 120 over-range series, so a visually similar black oven cannot be treated as an electrical substitute. The official 2008 PDF cover names SCA2000 and SCA2001; the exact product page ties it to the FBB suffix. For a parts or replacement inquiry, provide SCA2000FBB, the black finish, the duct arrangement and the nameplate electrical details. The physical position above a range makes the vent path as important as the cavity size.
Keep microwave sensing separate from Speedcook
Speedcook and microwave share one chamber but use different heating and timing logic. In Speedcook, the installed grill pan and other heat-resistant cookware serve a high-heat program; microwave mode is rated at 950 W and GE confirms sensor cooking. The sensor section on page 26 explains that cooking duration responds to humidity released by food. Microwave-safe vessels, a vented cover and a dry vessel exterior help that measurement. A tightly sealed plastic cover can block the steam signal and overcook food, while droplets already on the outside can confuse the sensor. The selected food and portion also need to be appropriate to the menu. Speedcook may leave the cavity too hot for an immediate sensor cycle, a limit the manual discusses separately from error handling. Do not assume every cooking button or bake feature found on a different Advantium applies to SCA2000FBB; the exact GE product lists two main modes. If a dish is incompletely warmed after sensor operation, follow the guide's TIME COOK path rather than treating repeated sensor activation as a harmless test.
Care for external exhaust and under-cabinet lighting
The hood and cooktop lamp deserve their own care schedule. Press VENT FAN to change the extractor from high to low to off, and SURFACE LIGHT to move between bright, nightlight and off. This model also lists an automatic night-light setting. Its reusable metal grease filters trap grease before it enters the hood; the guide says they should always be fitted during venting and cleaned monthly or when dirty. Page 36 explains sliding them out, washing with warm detergent water, drying and reinstalling securely. Avoid ammonia, which darkens the filter metal. The same page specifies 120-V, at most 40-W incandescent cooktop lamps for bulb replacement, even though the main appliance's power rating is 240/208 V; the bulb is a separate component specification, not the unit's mains rating. This exact product is listed as externally vented. The family manual also describes optional charcoal filtration for installations without outside venting, but that conditional section should not override the exact venting type of FBB.
Recover from sensor-phase door opening
The source-qualified SENSOR ERROR occurs on physical PDF page 27. The SCA2000 guide says opening the door while SENSOR Cooking is in progress can show this message, especially before the countdown begins. Close the door and press START as that page instructs. It does not say the name of the message is proof of a failed sensor assembly. Record whether the countdown was visible, the food menu and whether somebody opened the door. The same paragraph says an underheated portion should be finished with TIME COOK; repeatedly sensing the same partially cooked food can severely overcook it. A vent fan running below the cavity does not establish what happened to the microwave sensor, and a surface lamp on nightlight mode is likewise separate. If the alert reappears with the door kept closed, report the full display, SCA2000FBB, food amount and sequence to service. Include the 240/208-V exact-model context so it is not confused with the 120-V SCA1000 family.
