MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE PT7800DHBB
The black PT7800DHBB is a 30-inch GE Profile combination wall oven with a convection-capable 1,000-watt upper microwave and a separate True European Convection lower oven; its upper SENSOR ERROR has specific food-and-steam causes.
Map the two black convection cavities
PT7800DHBB is a black GE Profile 30-inch built-in combination oven. The top cavity can microwave at 1,000 watts and also convection bake, while the bottom cavity is a separate electric wall oven with True European Convection. This distinction is central: the upper unit's 16-inch turntable, clear glass tray and microwave presets serve a different purpose from the lower oven's racks and meat probe. The official owner's PDF covers PT7800 and PK7800; GE's exact PT7800DHBB listing supplies the color and equipment for this model. A shared selector dial navigates settings for either cavity, and the display reports their functions in one area. Before selecting a mode, check which upper or lower side is active. A wrong program can change how moisture is sensed and how long food cooks. The model label is on side trim or at the front of the lower oven behind its door, so record the full suffix when requesting a replacement tray or discussing an error with service.
Choose upper microwave and baking accessories
In the upper oven, microwave options include Cook, Defrost, Express and Reheat, with food or drink selections reached by the dial. The manual instructs users to keep both the turntable and clear glass tray installed for microwave operation and to put microwave-safe cookware on the tray. The same turntable must be present for upper convection baking, although a baking dish and optional wire rack have mode-specific placement rules. Upper convection uses moving hot air and may require a preheat, unlike a quick thirty-second microwave addition. The control can pause an upper cycle when its door opens; close it and use Start/Pause to continue an ordinary interrupted cooking step. For preset microwave cooking, enter the food type, quantity or weight requested by the display instead of choosing the first available menu item. Dry or uncovered food produces different steam from covered food. A sensor program's behavior therefore cannot be judged by a manual timer alone. The upper walls should be cleaned by wiping, not by using the lower cavity's high-temperature clean feature.
Use lower multi-rack and cleaning modes
The lower PT7800DHBB has traditional Bake and Broil plus Convection Bake for one or multiple racks and Convection Roast. Its European convection system circulates air around food; the multi-rack mode may need slightly longer than a single-rack result, even with Auto Recipe Conversion managing the entered temperature. GE lists six rack positions, two heavy-duty racks and a heavy-duty roller rack. Set their heights before preheating and leave space between trays. The temperature probe can monitor a roast and end cooking at a programmed internal value, but checking multiple parts of the food with a separate thermometer is still sensible. Proof and Warm are additional lower-oven modes. For light soil, lower Steam Clean uses one cup of water and a thirty-minute cycle; wipe up remaining moisture after the door unlocks. Self Clean is the higher-temperature lower-oven option with an automatic lock and its own rack restrictions. Neither lower cleaning program is a way to clean the microwave cavity above it.
Correct the upper SENSOR ERROR
Physical PDF page 30 assigns upper SENSOR ERROR to two practical causes: the selected program does not match the food amount or type, or steam was not sensed because wrap was unvented, a lid too tight or a liquid covered. Press Clear/Off, choose the proper food or beverage and quantity, then vent the wrap or loosen the lid as directed. For liquids the troubleshooting table suggests uncovering them. This is not the JKP86 family's door-open interpretation of the same words; the PT7800 guide supplies its own meaning. The lower oven has a separate display entry, SERVICE MAY BE NEEDED, for an oven function error on page 32. A fan continuing while parts cool or a blank display in power-saver mode likewise has its own explanation. Record which cavity and menu were in use before changing settings. If the upper message persists after matching food and cover, seek service with the exact model and circumstances rather than naming a failed sensor from the phrase alone.
