MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: GE PSA2201RSS

PSA2201RSS is a 240-volt, above-cooktop GE Profile Advantium with Speedcook, microwave sensors and convection; its owner guide explains the Sensor Error door message.

Identify the PSA2201 hybrid oven

PSA2201RSS is the GE Profile Advantium 240 oven installed above a cooktop, rather than a conventional freestanding range. GE's exact product record specifies a 1.70-cubic-foot cavity, 975-watt microwave output, a 240-volt supply and a glass-touch panel with a rotary selector. Its own product page links the 80-page guide; the rendered cover names PSA2200 and PSA2201, and page twelve draws the Speedcook, Microwave and Convection Bake keys beside the selector dial. Those checks matter because this appliance combines halogen lamps, a lower ceramic heater, convection air and microwave energy in one cavity. The exact feature list also includes broil, toast, warm and proof. This is a useful model distinction when someone searches for an apparent microwave fault but is actually using an oven heating mode. The cover describes a family, while the exact product fields establish what PSA2201RSS itself offers.

Read the sensor interruption message

The on-screen phrase Sensor Error - Close door and press START is explained on physical page twenty-eight. During a microwave sensor program, leave the door closed until a time countdown begins; opening it earlier interrupts the moisture measurement and produces that message. Close the door promptly and press START/PAUSE to resume. It does not, by itself, diagnose a damaged humidity sensor or require ordering a control board. Page twenty-seven says the sensor responds to rising humidity, which is why a dry oven interior and dry container exterior matter. Choose a microwave-safe covered or vented vessel as directed, while popcorn and potatoes are exceptions heated uncovered. Do not repeat a sensor program immediately on the same portion: GE warns that doing so can overcook or burn it. For additional cooking, switch to Cook By Time. A cavity still hot from another program may instead move automatically to timed cooking, which is a different condition from the open-door alert.

Set Speedcook power and the correct tray

Speedcook uses a different set of choices from the microwave sensor menu. Page fifteen describes more than 175 preset foods, chosen with the dial by category, specific food and then size or desired doneness; some programs display TURN FOOD OVER or CHECK for DONENESS. Page sixteen names separate upper-lamp U, lower-heater L, microwave M and convection C settings. Presets select their own combination, whereas My Recipes lets a user adjust a favorite; the exact SKU allows up to thirty saved recipes. Use the prescribed metal tray or grill tray for Speedcook, with the turntable seated, and watch food that browns rapidly. Microwave operation calls instead for the clear glass tray and microwave-safe containers. Page seven warns that choosing clear glass during Speedcook can crack the tray or impair results. Checking the cooking mode and its tray before pressing Start is more informative than treating every unexpected browning pattern as an electronic error.

Use convection, warm and proof deliberately

A separate Conv Bake key makes this appliance capable of circulated-air baking from 250 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. The manual shows the wire rack above the metal tray; one level uses the lower rack height and two levels can use both rack positions. It also explains that opening the door pauses cooking until START/PAUSE is pressed after closing it. Broil and toast are heating modes, not microwave sensor programs, so the metal trays and burn precautions apply. Warm starts with food that is already cooked and hot; its moisture choices include MOIST for a casserole or soup and CRISP for pizza or crackers. Proof provides a gentler setting for bread dough and may refuse to run while the oven is too hot. These functions have separate purposes despite sharing one control panel. A Sensor Error from page twenty-eight should therefore be investigated in its microwave sensor context, not applied to a convection or proofing cycle.

Check vent, lock and cleaning separately

The over-cooktop location adds a 300-CFM exhaust system with high, medium, low and off choices, plus surface lighting and an automatic night-light option. The guide says the vent or cooling fan may start by itself when the oven is hot and may continue after a cooking cycle while internal parts cool; that behavior is not the sensor message. Control Panel LOCKED is another separate display state: holding CLEAR/OFF for about three seconds locks or unlocks the panel, according to pages thirty-one and thirty-eight. If the display is blank, first inspect its setting; if it is lit but cooking will not start, check door closure, Start/Pause and an accidental Delay Start before assuming a failed component. Cleaning also depends on the mode: let hot trays cool, wash the removable glass and metal pieces, reseat the turntable after cleaning beneath it, and never run the oven without that support in place. A precise symptom and mode are worth recording before seeking service.
