MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: GE PGS908BEMBB

PGS908BEMBB is a black 30-inch GE Profile slide-in gas range with a 4.1-cubic-foot self-clean oven, hidden bake, storage drawer and documented F display pattern.

Identify the black slide-in model

PGS908BEMBB is GE Profile's black-on-black 30-inch slide-in gas range with a 4.10-cubic-foot oven and a storage drawer below it. The exact GE listing gives QuickSet V digital temperature controls and self-cleaning. Its linked owner-manual cover groups PGS908 with PGS975, so the full BEMBB suffix matters when judging the control panel or ordering a replacement part. Page 10 of that shared guide illustrates a convection and probe panel for some models. Page 11 depicts a simpler electronic Bake and Broil panel that agrees with the PGS908 feature record. GE does not list convection or a food probe for this exact SKU, so those optional drawings should not become claims about this range. The lower drawer is storage, not the electrically controlled warming drawer found on other Profile models. This distinction changes how to interpret an unheated drawer and how to plan oven use. Record model and serial from the frame label before comparing any sibling's controls.

Use the installed QuickSet V oven

The oven uses a hidden bake burner beneath the floor. Page 12 says not to place food directly on that floor; use one of the three heavy-duty racks instead. The family guide depicts seven rack positions, allowing height selection for different pans, and advises putting racks in place before heating. A low rack should be drawn out carefully because hands can approach the hot door. The QuickSet V panel uses numeric keys for temperature and timing, while the kitchen timer merely counts time and does not itself cook food. Its 9-and-0 control lock can be engaged or released by holding those keys together for three seconds. If controls beep and show LOC ON, check that setting before assuming an F fault. A flashing time after a power loss likewise requires resetting the clock and timed operations. A pan baking unevenly may call for rack placement or cookware review rather than a change to a control board. The shared manual's convection instructions apply only where convection controls are actually present.

Distinguish surface heat and cleaning

The gas surface gives this model a 15,000-BTU Power Boil burner and a 5,000-BTU Precise Simmer burner. Their jobs differ: high output speeds heating a suitable pot, while the low burner permits gentler work. As page 8 explains, selecting LITE produces spark clicks at all burners; adjust flame to the cookware base after lighting. In an outage, the surface-burner section has special manual-lighting precautions and notes that range lockout can prevent it. This should not be confused with the electrically ignited oven. For self-cleaning, remove broiler pan, cookware and foil, wipe heavy soil and close the door correctly; the lock remains in force until the cavity cools. The troubleshooting table says a surface burner left on can stop a self-clean cycle from starting. A door that stays locked immediately after cleaning may therefore be performing its temperature protection, not showing a broken latch. The storage drawer is not part of the oven's cleaning program.

Investigate the F display without guessing

The page 11 display description defines flashing F followed by a number or letter with a control signal as a function error. Press CLEAR/OFF, allow the oven to cool for one hour and retry. If the pattern comes back, the page 40 chart adds disconnecting all range power for at least thirty seconds, reconnecting and calling for service if it repeats. Copy the whole display, not only the F; note whether Bake, Broil or Self Clean was selected. The PDF does not assign specific F suffixes to a valve, sensor, latch or control board. A blank display may instead result from lost power or a clock black-out option; an ordinary flashing clock follows a power failure. Check these alternatives separately, and describe whether the surface burners still light. Keeping the exact PGS908 panel in view prevents a diagnosis from drifting to a convection-only PGS975 instruction.
