MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE PB960EJES
PB960EJES is a fingerprint-resistant Slate GE Profile double-oven electric range with a traditional 2.2-cu-ft upper oven, convection 4.4-cu-ft lower oven and five-position radiant surface.
Map the two ovens and slate cooktop
PB960EJES is a GE Profile 30-inch freestanding electric range in fingerprint-resistant Slate. Its two ovens total 6.60 cubic feet, divided into a 2.2-cu-ft upper cavity and a 4.4-cu-ft lower cavity. GE's exact record describes traditional cooking above and convection below. The distinction matters more than the matching door fronts: select Upper Oven or Lower Oven before entering a mode, because a recipe transferred between them may brown differently. The upper has two rack positions and an incandescent lamp; the lower has seven positions and a halogen lamp. The listed three self-clean heavy-duty racks serve the cooking spaces according to their fitting positions. The linked PDF names PB960 explicitly on its cover among several 30-inch double-oven electric ranges. Therefore consult exact PB960EJES specifications before applying a family-only illustration to a particular cavity. The slate finish does not alter a cooktop element's power or oven technology. When recording a heating complaint, include which oven, rack level, mode and set temperature were active.
Use the right element and warming zone
An edge-to-edge gray patterned ceramic-glass cooktop sits above the double oven. Its radiant right-front Power Boil element offers 12-, 9- and 6-inch rings at up to 3600 watts. The left-front 8/5-inch 1900-watt Sync element pairs in the product listing with an 8-inch 2000-watt left-rear Sync element. Match the active ring to pan diameter and ensure flat cookware contacts the glass; do not treat the rear-center 6-inch 80-watt warming zone as a full cooking burner. The manual says that zone holds food already cooked and hot, not cold food needing reheating. Its HOT COOKTOP light may stay on after a surface control is switched off, because the glass retains heat. GE also lists Chef Connect. The owner guide says it can pair the range with a compatible hood or over-the-range microwave, synchronizing clocks and turning on fan and lights when a burner is active. That convenience requires a compatible paired device and should not be confused with a temperature indicator or diagnostic F code.
Choose convection and cleaning modes
In the lower PB960EJES oven, convection Bake and Roast circulate air for multiple trays or a roast. The manual's control overview lets the user choose which oven receives the operation; it also notes that broiling is available in both ovens. Auto Recipe Conversion belongs to the exact model. When enabled for Convection Bake, it changes an entered conventional recipe temperature but not the cooking time. Check the displayed setpoint before subtracting degrees yourself, and select a rack arrangement that leaves air between pans. Steam Clean and Self Clean are both listed for this SKU. The guide defines steam cleaning as a lower-temperature water cycle for small spills, whereas Self Clean uses very high heat and locks the door. Wipe soil and use the setup for the chosen mode; the two methods are not interchangeable. The manual permits enameled dark racks in self-clean but requires shiny racks, probe, cookware and other loose items removed. A locked cleaning door can remain an ordinary cooling state. The gray glass cooktop needs its own cleaning procedure, separate from either oven cycle.
Read F without guessing a failed part
Physical PDF page 27 identifies F followed by a number or letter as a function error. No table on that page assigns a particular suffix to a relay, sensor or heating element. Write down the complete display and whether the upper or lower cavity was in use. Press Cancel/Off, let the oven cool for one hour and try the function again. If F returns, the visually reviewed page instructs disconnecting all power for at least thirty seconds, reconnecting and calling for service if it repeats. A blank display can instead be caused by a household fuse or breaker, and a clock flashing after outage needs resetting. Those are different observations from a live F pattern. HOT COOKTOP belongs to residual surface heat, not oven electronics. Comparing the event with the correct cavity, cooktop state and control setting provides better evidence than ordering a part from the letters alone. The official PDF contains the complete safety and service instructions.
