MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE JVM1850CF
Bisque JVM1850CF is a 1.8-cu-ft, 1100W GE Spacemaker XL1800 with 14.25-inch tray, wire shelf and three-speed-plus-Boost hood. Its linked 2003 guide explains SENSOR ERROR and CONTROL LOCKED.
The larger bisque XL1800 arrangement
The exact GE listing identifies JVM1850CF as a bisque Spacemaker XL1800 intended for a thirty-inch opening above a range. Its traditional microwave cavity measures 1.80 cubic feet and delivers 1100 watts through a 14.25-inch glass turntable. A single wire shelf provides an extra level for suitable reheating. The steel door has a concealed hinge, and the electronic display can scroll in English or Spanish. Because the unit sits above a cooktop, the same enclosure also houses a three-speed exhaust fan with a separate Boost setting and programmable night lighting. GE describes this configuration as externally vented; JX81B charcoal filtration is an optional kit if an installation is converted to recirculation. A charcoal filter therefore should not be assumed present merely because the fan runs. The cover lists JVM1850 in a broader family and leaves off the CF sales suffix; the exact product page supplies the link to this edition.
Menus and saved settings with limits
The controls offer timed heating, sensor choices and conveniences with different inputs. Auto Defrost sets time and power for meat, poultry or fish up to six pounds, while Time and Quick Defrost give more direct control. A regular Popcorn choice is intended for a commercial bag of three to three-and-a-half ounces; other sizes call for Time Cook. Reheat uses separate selections for a plate, eight-to-twelve-ounce pasta and a small vegetable serving. The vegetable sensor distinguishes fresh, frozen and canned food by repeated presses. A Custom pad can store a frequently used time and power combination, yet the manual explicitly excludes sensor settings from that saved slot. Delay Start can defer a timed program for as long as twenty-four hours. The Reminder is a separate alarm that can be set within the same period, even while cooking. The optional charcoal-filter reminder uses a 180-day timer rather than measuring actual filter condition. These details keep a programmed control from being mistaken for a hardware fault.
Why the humidity program reports an interruption
The sensor detects increasing humidity as food heats. Covered microwave-safe dishes with a vent for steam and a dry outside help it receive the intended signal. During the initial sensing stage, do not open the door until the remaining time begins counting down. The troubleshooting page associates SENSOR ERROR with opening too early or with steam absent at the maximum sensing time. It recommends Time Cook for extra heat when food remains cool. The message alone cannot establish a failed humidity sensor. This larger 1100-watt model also has a shelf, but the manual removes it for Popcorn, Sensor Cooking and Reheat; it must not sit on the cavity floor. A second automatic sensor run on the same serving can overcook it, so a measured timed extension is better. Record the selected food, portion and door action if the warning recurs under normal conditions.
Lock, ventilation and useful service details
CONTROL LOCKED or LOCKED has a separate explanation: the control panel is deliberately locked. Hold Clear/Off for about three seconds to restore keypad use. Another apparently odd behavior comes from the hood: rising heat from the range can start its fan automatically, and it may keep running until internal parts cool. Use the Vent Fan key for high, medium, low and off during ordinary operation; Boost adds another setting. If the oven refuses to start altogether, the source first checks the household fuse, plug and door closure. A warm floor can simply come from the cooktop lamp below it. None of those observations should be folded into the steam-based SENSOR ERROR. For a service report, distinguish whether the issue was on the cooking display, the locked keypad or the exhaust fan, and include the exact wording and sequence.
Verified model details
JX81B is optional for recirculation; the exact model lists exterior venting.
