MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE JVM1750SPSS
GE JVM1750SPSS is a stainless 1.7-cu-ft 1000-watt over-range microwave with 300-CFM two-speed vent, 11.5-inch turntable and Instant-On sensor menus. Its linked guide explains SENSOR ERROR as an interrupted or steamless sensing cycle.
The stainless over-range layout
The JVM1750SPSS is a stainless Spacemaker above a range, offering a 1.7-cubic-foot cavity and 1000 watts of microwave output. GE specifies a two-speed hood vent at 300 cubic feet per minute, externally ducted in the exact listing. That vent removes cooktop air; it is separate from the microwave's food-heating controls. The recessed glass turntable is 11.5 inches across, a surprisingly specific figure when planning plate size in a spacious-looking cavity. The lower lamp can be set to bright, night or off. Electronic touch controls include a scrolling clock, five text speeds and four sound-volume levels. Those settings change how instructions are seen and heard, not how much energy the food receives. Traditional microwave technology is specified; there is no convection-bake feature to borrow from a Profile combination oven. The linked guide cover names JVM1750 alongside HVM1750 and EVM1750, and the precise SPSS suffix and stainless surface come from GE's product page.
A small turntable and one optional shelf
One wire shelf can occupy two positions, but its purpose is narrow. The family guide says to use it only to reheat food on more than one level; it should be removed for Sensor Cooking, Reheat and Popcorn, and never stored on the oven floor. Normal use also calls for the removable turntable and support to be in place. GE lists Instant-On menus for Beverage, Popcorn, Potato, Reheat and vegetables distinguished as canned, frozen or fresh. A ten-level power control and Time Cook I/II provide an alternative when a portion does not fit those presets. Page twenty-two explains that sensor time changes as humidity rises. Containers need microwave-safe material and a vented cover, while droplets on the outside should be dried away. It warns against repeating a sensor preset on the same portion because the second pass can overcook it. Accessories and portion type are therefore more useful than simply knowing the microwave's wattage.
What SENSOR ERROR says about Popcorn
This edition's Popcorn preset is for prepackaged 3.0- to 3.5-ounce bags, not the 1.75-ounce minimum used by some older GE manuals. Page twenty-three says that opening the door while POPCORN remains on screen displays SENSOR ERROR. Its immediate instructions are to close the door, press Clear/Off and begin again. The troubleshooting page adds another route to the same text: the sensor did not detect steam before its maximum wait expired. Thus the display reports a sensing phase that did not complete as expected, without identifying a failed humidity component. Keep the door closed until a countdown starts and check that the package size suits the preset. If food is still underdone after countdown, use Time Cook for additional minutes rather than automatically running Popcorn a second time. The manual explicitly warns that repeated sensor cooking of one portion can burn it. The actual message and door history matter to any service call.
LOCKED and no-start questions
LOCKED is a separate panel status. The JVM1750 guide says to hold Clear/Off for about three seconds to release its control lock. A low-tone beep can also result from an invalid Reminder time or an attempt to change power on a preset that does not permit it; that is not a sensor failure. If the oven will not start, the same page first lists power supply, a fully inserted plug and a securely closed door. A warm cavity floor can come from the cooktop light below and is labelled normal. These observations should be made before attributing every unexpected symptom to the magnetron. When contacting service, report the whole displayed phrase, food amount, shelf position, chosen program and whether the door was opened before steam could be detected. The PDF supports an operational SENSOR ERROR explanation and no numeric diagnosis of a particular circuit.
