MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: GE JTP95WAWW

The white GE Profile JTP95WAWW combines an upper 1,000-watt microwave with a lower convection oven and meat probe. Its 1998 owner guide separates upper SENSOR ERROR, lower F codes and the ordinary Probe prompt.

Match the white JTP95WAWW to its guide

JTP95WAWW is GE Profile's white-on-white 30-inch cooking center. The exact manufacturer page lists a 1,000-watt upper microwave with a 15.5-inch turntable, while the lower cavity offers convection Bake and Roast, three racks and an automatic meat thermometer. This layout is more specific than the JTP95 name printed on the November 1998 owner-guide cover: the model page establishes that the WAWW suffix points to that linked PDF. The upper microwave and lower convection oven have separate controls and cannot share a diagnostic interpretation. Their clocks even display 1:30 on different scales, minutes and seconds above but hours and minutes below. Keep the retail suffix when seeking parts or trim, and note the cavity before recording a screen message. The lower probe belongs to the conventional oven, not to a microwave sensor program, despite both involving automatic control of cooking.

Follow the upper sensor timing

The upper automatic controls include Popcorn, Beverage, Reheat, Vegetables, Potato and Chicken/Fish. The latter sensor choice uses one press for chicken pieces and two for fish; the vegetable program covers fresh, frozen and canned portions. These modes respond to humidity released by food, which explains the guide's directions to use microwave-safe covered containers with a vent and to dry outside moisture that could mislead sensing. Reheat signals after detecting steam and then displays a remaining-time countdown. The troubleshooting chart defines SENSOR ERROR as a door opened too soon during this initial sensor period. A Popcorn-specific instruction separately says opening while POP is shown produces ERROR. Thus the timing of the door opening is a useful first observation. For a planned pause, START/PAUSE can stop cooking without opening the door or clearing the display. An early-door message is not proof that the humidity sensor needs replacement.

Use the upper panel's information displays

The 1998 JTP95 control guide gives other messages that are easy to mistake for failures. After cooking, FOOD IS READY and a periodic beep remind the user that food remains in the upper cavity. A delayed start displays DS alongside the scheduled time; that function permits specified Defrost Auto/Time and Time Cook combinations, rather than every sensor program. HELP displays instructions after a feature pad, and SOUND LEVEL has settings from mute to loud, so lack of a beep is not by itself a cooking fault. The upper minute timer does not energize the microwave and the control description directs users to the lower timer while the microwave is operating. For timed heating, power levels one through ten can be chosen, and the two-stage Time Cook can change levels automatically. Distinguishing these ordinary states from SENSOR ERROR prevents an unnecessary reset when the panel is simply awaiting input or displaying a reminder.

Interpret lower oven messages and probe use

The lower convection oven has a different troubleshooting table. F followed by a number or letter in its display is called a function error code. GE says to press lower CLEAR/OFF, allow an hour of cooling and retry; if it repeats, disconnect the cooking center for at least 30 seconds and seek service if the code returns. The guide does not decode each suffix into a failed part. It also lists Probe after the lower temperature probe is connected but no target temperature is entered; that is a prompt for a setting, not an F code. The probe is only for the lower oven and should be removed before self-cleaning. Visible steam from the lower vent during convection is expressly described as normal, while the cooling fan may run to protect internal parts. During self-clean the lower door remains locked until sufficiently cool. These distinctions let owners report the actual lower display, operating mode and probe state instead of conflating every visible indicator with the upper microwave's SENSOR ERROR.
