MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE JT965SKSS
JT965SKSS has separate upper microwave and lower convection-oven displays. Its upper unit reports ERROR or SENSOR ERROR after specific door interruptions; an F pattern is a lower-oven function error.
Identify the exact cooking center and its two displays
GE lists JT965SKSS as a stainless-steel, 30-inch GE Profile cooking center rather than a stand-alone microwave. Its upper 1.6-cubic-foot compartment is a 1,000-watt microwave; the 4.1-cubic-foot lower compartment has true European convection and self-cleaning. The GE product page directly links the owner's manual whose cover names the JT965 family and describes a microwave/convection cooking center. That cover does not print the complete SKSS suffix, so the exact product listing supplies the capacity and finish. Find the full model and serial label inside the upper compartment on the left. Before reacting to a display, determine which of the two panels is reporting it: even 1:30 means one minute thirty seconds above but one hour thirty minutes below.
Respond to upper-microwave sensor messages
On the upper microwave, ERROR has a narrow meaning in the Popcorn instructions: the door opened while POPCORN was displayed. Close it, press that panel's CLEAR/OFF, and start Popcorn afresh. SENSOR ERROR appears in the troubleshooting chart when a sensor program's door was opened before the remaining time started counting down. During sensor cooking, leave the door closed until steam has been detected and the countdown begins. The manual explains that these programs sense rising humidity; moisture on the outside of a dish or in the cavity can mislead that reading, so dry both before starting. If Reheat is interrupted after its countdown has begun, close the door and promptly press START/PAUSE. An unsatisfactory serving can be finished with Time Cook; the message alone is no diagnosis of a failed sensor.
Handle a lower-oven F pattern without guessing its number
A flashing F followed by a number or letter, accompanied by the lower oven's control signal, is the manual's function-error pattern. It gives no table translating individual F characters into defective parts. Press CLEAR/OFF on the lower panel, allow that oven an hour to cool, and try normal operation. If the pattern returns, GE directs a disconnection of all power to the cooking center for at least thirty seconds; call service if it comes back after reconnecting. A flashing lower display following a power failure has a different instruction: reset its clock and any programmed function. Do not mistake the lower panel's CON indication for an F fault either. With Auto Recipe Conversion, a regular 350°F convection-bake entry can show CON and a converted 325°F; cooking time is not converted.
Read probe and control-lock indications in the correct compartment
This exact GE configuration lists a temperature probe for the lower oven. When its display says Probe after connection, the troubleshooting table asks for a probe temperature; the roasting instructions then use PROBE, a food-temperature setting and START. LO while the oven first heats is a normal probe display before the food reaches 100°F. A connected probe can prevent self-cleaning, so remove it before troubleshooting a refused clean cycle. Locks are also compartment-specific. A single L at the right edge of the upper microwave display marks its child lock; hold that microwave's CLEAR/OFF about three seconds. LOC ON belongs to the lower touch controls; hold 9 and 0 together there for three seconds to reach LOC OFF. These indications are not individual F codes.
Distinguish self-clean locking from a failure
During lower-oven self-cleaning, LOCKED can flash with a signal if the door was left open when the cycle was selected; close the door. Once cleaning starts, the door locks automatically and remains shut until the appliance cools below the locking temperature and its LOCKED light goes out. Do not force it. GE also tells owners to remove the broiler pan, grid, probe, cookware and foil before the cycle, and to wipe heavy soil. If you need service after the prescribed F-pattern steps, report the complete JT965SKSS model from the label, say whether the upper or lower display was involved, and describe whether the oven was cooking or self-cleaning. That context is more useful than assigning an unsupported meaning to an isolated F number.
