MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE JGBS66DEKWW
GE JGBS66DEKWW is a white 5.0-cu-ft gas range with five differentiated burners, an oval griddle center, cast-iron continuous grates, steam-clean oven and broiler drawer. Its linked manual documents a generic F function warning.
Read this five-burner layout
JGBS66DEKWW is the white, natural-gas version of GE's 30-inch freestanding range with a 5.00-cubic-foot oven. Its five surface positions are not interchangeable: the left front is 15,000 BTU, the right rear 12,000, the right front 9,500, and the left rear a 5,000-BTU precise-simmer burner. A 10,000-BTU oval center serves the griddle area. GE specifies heavy cast-iron continuous grates across the cooktop, a broiler drawer below, and two flat nickel oven racks with six positions. The manufacturer's product page gives these assignments for the full suffix DEKWW. The linked owner's PDF covers JGBS66 and several neighboring families, so a feature mentioned as optional in that shared guide must be checked against the exact product record.
Use the center griddle and gas ignition
The JGBS66DEKWW center oval is useful for a griddle rather than for balancing a small round pan. The family guide says a griddle belongs only above the center burner; it describes several griddle materials, so identify the actual plate before using material-specific care directions. It calls for five minutes of preheating on High for a griddle, with additional time only when searing on cast iron. Keep spilled grease from accumulating beneath the plate and let it cool before cleaning there. For normal burner ignition, press and turn a knob to LITE. The guide notes that all burners can spark while any one knob remains at LITE, which does not mean all five gas valves are open. Once its flame catches, move that knob to the intended heat and keep flame tips under the cookware.
Adjust oven modes and rack height
GE lists high and low broil, electronic clock and timer, delay bake and oven control lock on this exact model. The linked oven-controls page differentiates Cook Time, which ends a programmed bake after the chosen duration, from Timer, which only sounds and lets heating continue. Start must be pressed to begin a cooking, cleaning or timed selection; Cancel/Off leaves clock and timer functions available. The manual's cooking guide uses the lower burner for Bake and suggests preheating for cakes and pastries. Rack height affects browning: moving baked goods upward darkens their tops, whereas lowering them can reduce excessive top color. With two racks and six positions, leave airflow between pans when cooking multiple items. The lower broiler drawer is distinct from those interior rack levels.
Follow this SKU's steam-clean procedure
The exact GE specification calls this a steam-clean oven. The linked family PDF contains a self-clean section too, but its option label does not turn this DEKWW SKU into a self-cleaning model. For light soil, the steam-clean directions start with an oven at room temperature and removal of excess grease. Pour one cup of water onto the oven bottom, close the door, select Steam Clean with the Clean pad and start the cycle. The displayed countdown is 30 minutes. GE says not to open the door during the cycle, then to absorb leftover water and wipe softened soil from the walls and door. Acidic food spills are handled promptly after the surfaces cool. Avoid applying the self-clean temperature or latch instructions from a different family variant to this steam-clean product.
Separate F, lock and outage messages
Physical PDF page 25 labels an F followed by a number or letter flashing in the display as a function error. It does not decode any particular suffix into a failed sensor or board. GE says to press Cancel/Off, wait one hour for cooling and try again; if it repeats, interrupt all oven power at least 30 seconds, reconnect, and call service if the warning returns once more. Note the full display and the active cooking mode. The same table distinguishes a flashing clock after a supply outage and LOC ON when control lock is enabled. Check those conditions before interpreting every unresponsive pad as an F error. The guide also says the oven is inoperable during a power failure even though it describes cautious manual lighting of surface burners.

A 10,000-BTU oval center and a 5,000-BTU precise-simmer burner serve different tasks.
Source for this detailGE specifies steam clean for this exact SKU, though the family PDF also discusses self-clean versions.
Source for this detailThe generic flashing F pattern differs from LOC ON and an outage-flashing clock.
