MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE JGB920SEFSS
JGB920SEFSS is a stainless GE Profile gas-on-glass range with four unequal sealed burners, a probe-equipped convection oven and an electric warming drawer; the manual's recurring F reset is five minutes.
Recognize gas burners on ceramic glass
JGB920SEFSS is a stainless GE Profile free-standing gas range with a Gas-On-Glass Ceramic cooktop. Gas flames rise through four sealed burners, but their surrounding surface is glass ceramic rather than porcelain enamel. Three heavy continuous grate sections bridge the cooking area. The right-front Power Boil burner is rated 15,000 BTU and the owner guide suggests cookware at least ten inches across for its special setting. A 5,000-BTU Precise Simmer, 11,000-BTU high-output burner and 9,100-BTU all-purpose burner complete the exact product's range of heat. This layout matters when replacing burner pieces; the owner PDF cover names JGB920, and the SEFSS suffix fixes the stainless finish and features. At LITE, igniters may click at more than the selected burner, but gas flows only where its valve is open. Adjust visible flames to the pan base. Glass around a gas burner can stay hot after the flame goes out, so treat the area as a heated surface during cleanup.
Use three racks, convection and the probe
The oven in JGB920SEFSS supports ordinary Bake plus fan-assisted Convection Bake and Roast. The manual explains that convection air circulates around the food and that Auto Recipe Conversion changes an entered standard recipe temperature for baking. Use the oven's three racks and six listed positions to give pans room; multiple loaded racks can take slightly longer despite good air circulation. GE also includes a temperature probe for a roast. Insert its tip into the thickest edible part away from bone or fat, enter an internal target, then the oven can stop when that target is reached. The guide notes that LO appears until food reaches 100°F internally; this display is part of probe operation rather than a low oven temperature warning. Never leave the probe in the cavity during Self Clean. The QuickSet VI display offers numerical entry and broil selection. Because the gas oven uses electric ignition, the oven and broiler cannot be run through a power outage even though the top gas burners can be lit carefully according to the manual.
Keep glass and warming drawer separate
The lower compartment is an electric warming drawer with three settings and a stainless insert, not a passive storage drawer. Its purpose is holding already-hot food at serving temperature; it is not intended to cook a cold casserole. The PDF explains that 1 is low, 2 medium and 3 high, and warns that CLEAR/OFF on the main panel does not switch this drawer off. Use its own warming-drawer control after serving. It is unavailable while the oven performs Self Clean. The oven's high-temperature cleaning cycle locks the door automatically until cooling, with cookware and probe removed first. The glass cooktop needs a different procedure: let it cool, lift off grates and use the specified ceramic cooktop cleaner and pad. Sugar-rich spills can permanently damage the surface if allowed to set. Do not apply oven cleaning chemistry to it, and do not lift the sealed-burner glass top. The manual's porcelain-cooktop section refers to a different surface and should not override this exact gas-on-glass design.
Interpret F, Err and drawer controls
If the oven display flashes F with a number or letter and signals, the official guide calls it a function error without decoding a part from the suffix. Page 54 directs CLEAR/OFF and one hour of oven cooling before another attempt. If F repeats, disconnect all range power for five minutes, restore it and call service if the same problem returns. Record the complete characters and active cooking mode. A separate Err message means a time or temperature was entered outside control limits; clear it and enter an allowed setting rather than declaring a component failure. A flashing clock after an outage likewise needs resetting. The warming drawer has its own control and may stay on even when the oven CLEAR/OFF is touched, so inspect its setting separately when diagnosing unexpected heat. These distinctions are specific to JGB920SEFSS and its gas-on-glass, convection and drawer configuration.
