MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: GE JGB916SEKSS

GE Profile JGB916SEKSS is a stainless gas range with 17,000-BTU Power Boil, a separate center oval griddle burner, a 5.0-cu-ft convection oven and a 450-watt warming drawer. Its PDF distinguishes Err and F.

Five burner shapes and one griddle

Stainless JGB916SEKSS uses a cooktop configuration unlike a four-burner Profile: GE lists 17,000-BTU Power Boil, 11,000-BTU high output, 9,100-BTU all-purpose, 5,000-BTU Precise Simmer and a 6,000-BTU oval center burner. The fifth position has a matching nonstick griddle. The linked owner instructions say to remove the center grate and place the griddle only over that oval flame, not across arbitrary side burners. Let the assembly cool before fitting or lifting it. Long empty heating on HI can damage the coating, as can sharp metal tools. Continuous heavy cast grates cover the surrounding positions and are specified as dishwasher safe. The strongest burner suits a large pot that can contain its flame beneath the base; the center shape suits flat breakfast foods. These differences matter when identifying the appliance from a generic manual picture: a four-burner diagram is not a reason to overlook the exact product's griddle.

Two racks, convection and a probe

The main oven holds five cubic feet and provides two racks across six locations. GE names both Convection Bake and Convection Roast, along with QuickSet VI digital control and numbered Digipad entry. Fan-assisted baking may help on multiple shelves, but two supplied racks do not become three merely because the cavity has six positions. The linked convection page says the fan stops when the door is opened, so repeatedly checking food can interrupt airflow. Convection Roast circulates heat around uncovered meat; its guide describes using a broiler pan and grid to catch grease. A meat-thermometer feature is on the exact product listing, enabling cooking toward internal food temperature. That probe reading is not the same as a displayed F suffix. True Temp also appears as the oven's temperature-management system. Arrange pans with space for fan air, follow the recipe-conversion guidance when changing from regular baking, and use the actual temperature of food rather than an assumed time when doneness matters.

Three warming levels below

This stainless model has a 450-watt electric warming drawer, not a storage cubby and not a separate baking oven. GE explicitly lists Low, Medium and High settings. The manual describes its purpose as keeping already cooked, hot food ready to serve; starting with cold food would be a different food-safety task that the drawer is not meant to perform. Cover moist dishes, leave crisp foods uncovered and avoid foil lining that traps heat. The drawer needs time to preheat and cannot operate during the main oven's Self-Clean cycle. Its control is separate: Clear/Off for the main oven does not necessarily stop warming. Self-Clean is a feature of the upper cavity, while control lock prevents unintended panel use; those two functions serve different purposes. The drawer's presence makes this range materially different from a GE model whose same-looking lower panel only stores pans. Check the exact panel before following a family guide's alternative controls.

Separating Err, F and door messages

Two short messages on the JGB916 control page have separate explanations. Err reports an entered time or temperature outside the allowed range; Clear/Off followed by a valid setting is the stated correction. Flashing F with a number or letter and a control signal is a function error, with no individual suffix decoding in this PDF. The later troubleshooting table prescribes Clear/Off, one hour to cool and another attempt. If F recurs, remove all range power for five minutes, reconnect and seek service if it appears again. During Self-Clean, the table also points to a latch that may have shifted; check that it is fully rightward. It separately lists Door or LOCK DOOR messages for door/latch conditions, so a lock indication is not a license to diagnose a failed probe. Note the full display text and current operation before contacting service. A clock blinking after a power outage needs resetting rather than an invented F repair.
