MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: GE JES1855PCH

JES1855PCH is GE's 1.8-cu-ft, 1,100-watt bisque countertop microwave. Its JES1855 manual explains SENSOR ERROR during steam-based cooking and the 14-inch turntable control.

Identify the bisque family-size variant

GE identifies JES1855PCH as a family-size 1.80-cubic-foot countertop microwave with 1,100-watt IEC output and a Bisque on Bisque finish. The exact listing specifies a 14-inch glass turntable, ten power levels, and Popcorn, Reheat, Potato and Vegetables sensor selections. Its linked owner's PDF names the JES1855 family rather than the PCH appearance suffix, so the product record is needed for the precise color and tray specification. The large cavity is useful for wider dishes, but do not infer the glass-tray diameter from capacity alone. The manual requires the turntable and its support in place during cooking. That rule remains true when its rotation is temporarily stopped for a large, suitable dish.

Follow the sensor message through its two causes

On this JES1855, SENSOR ERROR describes a steam-detection problem, not a proved broken part. The visible troubleshooting table on physical page 35 explains that the door was opened before steam could be detected during Popcorn, Reheat, Beverage, Baked Potato or Vegetable, or steam was not detected within the maximum interval. For early opening, close the door, press CLEAR/OFF and restart. For absent steam, supply more heat with Time Cook. Page 25 shows the concrete Popcorn trigger when POPCORN remains on the display, and specifies prepared bags of 1.75 to 3.5 ounces. Before other sensor cycles, use a vented microwave-safe cover and make sure the dish exterior and cavity are dry. Water beads in the wrong place can mislead the humidity sensor.

Choose portion size and defrost method

Reheat is aimed at a single serving of already cooked food, even though this oven can physically hold a much larger dish. GE directs a large amount to Time Cook, as well as bread and uncovered or frequently stirred meals. After Reheat senses steam, its remaining time begins to count down; stir the finished portion where possible, because spots may be much hotter than others. The Vegetable guide lists four to sixteen ounces and, for fresh produce, a quarter cup of water per serving. Defrosting is a separate decision: Auto Defrost handles meat, poultry and fish up to six pounds, while Time Defrost begins at power three and can be changed with more attention to the food. A timed finish gives control after an underheated sensor run.

Use turntable and reminders without confusion

The exact JES1855PCH listing includes Turntable On/Off, a 24-hour Reminder, Child Lock and Demo Mode, although the owner PDF gives no operating sequence for Demo Mode, so do not diagnose it from this source alone. The turntable should normally rotate for best results; the manual allows it to stop for a large dish and warns that the glass may be hot. The Reminder can operate independently of cooking and be set up to a day ahead, so a later beep does not necessarily indicate a new microwave fault. Hold CLEAR/OFF about three seconds to change the child-lock state. If the keypad seems unresponsive, check this state and the current display first. Wipe the panel with a damp cloth and dry it before another test.
