MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: GE JES1451DSWW

JES1451DSWW supports six exact sensor menus; rendered owner pages explain SENSOR ERROR or Err from steam detection and LOC from the control lock.

Identify exact JES1451 sensor controls

GE JES1451DSWW is a white 1.40-cubic-foot countertop microwave with 1100 watts of IEC-705 output and a 12.625-inch glass turntable. Its exact GE listing identifies six sensor controls: Beverage, Popcorn, Potato, Reheat, Vegetables and Soup. It also confirms Control Lock, weight-and-time defrost, Time Cook I/II and an LED touch interface. The linked 72-page bilingual owner PDF names JES1451 on its cover, but its family diagram shows several additional food keys for related JES1456 and JES1460 variants. Do not assume every illustrated key belongs to this particular oven. The two relevant display messages are the real SENSOR ERROR or Err troubleshooting signal and LOC for an intentionally locked keypad. A sensor menu number, a timer count and a lock state have different purposes; reading all of them as appliance failures would send a user toward the wrong fix.

Prepare a dependable humidity-sensor run

This model's supported sensor buttons estimate cooking time by responding to humidity released as food heats. Page 21 advises microwave-safe vessels with a lid or vented plastic wrap, not a tightly sealed container that traps steam. The dish exterior and the oven interior should be dry before a sensor run; beads of existing water can deceive the humidity measurement. That explains why the setting is not simply a fixed timer hidden behind a convenient name. Page 23 says Reheat signals once steam is sensed and only then displays a remaining countdown. If the food needs more warmth after that countdown, the manual directs Time Cook rather than immediately repeating Reheat on the same portion. Page 22 also limits sensor Popcorn to prepared bags of 1.75 to 3.5 ounces. These preparation details matter because the sensor has to detect steam from the intended food, not moisture already on a plate.

Respond to SENSOR ERROR or Err

The actual SENSOR ERROR or Err row is on physical PDF page 30. One cause is opening the door while a supported sensor program is running, before the oven has detected steam. For that case the manufacturer says to close the door, press CANCEL/OFF and begin again. The second cause is that steam has not been detected by the maximum sensor period. Its remedy is to use Time Cook for more heating; do not keep rerunning an automatic cycle on food that may already be hot. The family table names additional programs such as Rice, Fish and Frozen Dinner, yet GE's exact JES1451DSWW listing verifies only the six programs above. Our instructions therefore apply the error row to those confirmed buttons and leave other illustrated menus out. If the message persists, first review the covering, dry exterior and actual food quantity before escalating the problem.

Unlock LOC without resetting a sensor cycle

LOC is a separate panel state. Page 26 instructs the user to hold the pictured CANCEL/OFF key about three seconds to lock or unlock the controls, and says LOC appears on the extreme right while locked. The exact product's Control Lock specification supports this applicability. Page 31 also mentions LOCKED or LOC in its troubleshooting row, but LOC is the explicit label in the dedicated control section. START/PAUSE performs another task: it can interrupt cooking without opening the door; it is not the key used to clear LOC. The model can also hide the clock display by holding zero for roughly three seconds when no cooking feature is active. An apparently dark clock, an intentionally locked keypad and a steam-detection error thus require three different checks. Examine the actual display and the last button sequence before unplugging or seeking parts.

Choose timed cooking when steam sensing does not fit

For cooking choices outside sensor operation, use the confirmed Weight/Time Defrost and Time Cook controls. Weight defrost asks for food mass; timed defrost lets the user specify a duration. Time Cook I/II allows two cooking stages, and Add 30 Seconds starts quickly or extends a running interval. These are useful fallbacks when steam sensing is unsuitable for very small, unusually dry or previously heated portions. The manual also explains normal steam around the door and changes in fan sound at reduced power; those observations do not themselves equal SENSOR ERROR. The direct PDF is valuable here because it links the message to exact causes and actions, but its embedded font extracts as shifted characters. Every quoted PDF statement in this article was checked against rendered page images, including the JES1451 cover, control drawing and pages 26 and 30. That visual check preserves the distinction between a true sensor alert and ordinary control status.
