MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE GTW840CPNDG
Exact GE GTW840CPNDG washer guide: H2O SUPPLY and Consumer Help Indicator messages, SmartDispense, Water Station and model-specific care.
Identify the GTW840CPNDG configuration
GTW840CPNDG is GE's Diamond Gray, 27-inch-wide top-load washer with a 5.2-cubic-foot stainless-steel basket and Infusor wash mechanism. Its exact product record confirms electronic touch controls, a digital countdown, built-in WiFi and SmartDispense. GE lists ten wash cycles plus Water Station, including Sanitize with Oxi. The linked owner's manual covers several families; its cover explicitly names GTW840. Of the three panels on page six, the upper drawing shows both SmartDispense and Water Station, matching this SKU. That distinction matters when following controls elsewhere in the manual: the lower drawings show different dispensers and should not be treated as pictures of this machine.
Trace H2O SUPPLY through the inlet path
If H2O SUPPLY scrolls across the GTW840CPNDG display, the manual says the washer cannot sense a water level; a turned-off household supply is one possible explanation. Start with both supply valves and the hoses, rather than buying a valve or sensor immediately. The Consumer Help Indicator table asks whether the taps were reopened after installation or vacation. Once the message starts, the controls can remain unresponsive for four minutes; unplugging during that lockout restarts its timer. For persistently low flow, GE's troubleshooting table also calls for turning off the supply and cleaning the hose and machine inlet screens before reconnecting and checking for leaks.
Separate cancellation, lid and balance messages
Other messages require different observations. CAnCELEd may follow a pause lasting over 24 hours, or a cycle that stopped before completion because of certain errors; it does not by itself identify a failed board. The same help table describes a Lid reminder after three cycles begun without opening the lid: open it, close it and try a new cycle. A blinking Spin light instead points to an unbalanced load. Let the machine finish; if laundry remains wet, redistribute items around the basket and run Drain & Spin. Record the exact wording or lamp behavior before calling service, because these three paths have different causes and responses.
Use SmartDispense and Water Station as intended
SmartDispense changes how detergent is handled on this GTW840. The manual's page-fifteen section is expressly marked for GTW840 and GTW845; its reservoir holds about 75 ounces of liquid detergent, enough for roughly 50 average loads depending on the setting. AUTO meters detergent from sensed load size, while Less, More and Off give direct control. Some cycles prohibit bulk dispensing; if Off stays lit, detergent goes into the wash basket for that load. Water Station is a separate pretreatment or soaking function, not a full wash cycle. GE also specifies Deep Rinse when using fabric softener and cautions that too much detergent harms wash performance.
Protect the water connections and interpret recurring warnings
For routine care, replace the washer's inlet hoses on GE's five-year interval and check for seepage after any reconnection. The manual says not to move a GTW840 with a full SmartDispense tank; if the machine must tilt forward, flush the tank to avoid a spill. These steps are separate from diagnosing an H2O SUPPLY event: that message warrants a supply and inlet-path check, while a blinking Spin light warrants load redistribution. A single reset cannot distinguish blocked screens from closed taps. If the supply is sound and the same warning returns after the prescribed checks, give service the full model suffix and the observed message rather than guessing a replacement component.
